Courtesy of Big Apple Airchecks, here’s a fun aircheck of a night Beaver Cleaver (KFMB-FM, KTNQ) came to New York City, probably upon the insistence of someone at RKO General, and did the first of many appearances at 99X!
We’re not sure how many times Cleaver was on WXLO, but we do have another aircheck of Cleaver here, a year later (watch for the link, still to come).
Yes, it’s June, and Disco has arrived in the Big Apple. Its a very warm day over 80 degrees and Cleaver starts with a bang! The first minute at the Top hour ID, is a short aircheck of Cleaver at KFMB-FM San Diego and 1020 KTNQ Los Angeles! At that energy level, Cleaver then goes on to have fun with the comparatively laid-back Top 40 format at 99X.
His real name is Ken Levine and aside from being a very witty DJ he is one of the greatest TV scriptwriters of all time. Over the holidays he did some fill-in airshifts at KABC in L.A. He is also a prolific blogger with a lot to say about the entertainment industry and other things. //kenlevine.blogspot.com/

Thanks for posting this, Matt. I haven’t heard it in a zillion years. It was great fun to be on the radio in New York. Thanks to Bobby Rich for giving me the chance. Listening back, I was out of my mind back then.

“Saturday Night Beaver”
You’ll never hear another jock like him. Sadly not very many heard him. Between his comedy writing career (M*A*S*H, Cheers, Fraiser,many more) this Emmy winning writer/director/producer and major league baseball announcer always loved being on the radio. But he ended up with a career the rest of us could only dream of instead.
A great loss for radio, but a huge gain for millions who continue to enjoy his work.
Ken was on against us on Sunday nights back in 2001 on KRLA. Man, I love listening to his airchecks. What an amazing talent!
Gosh, how many other radio stations get name checked here? I picked up B100, KCBQ, “77” (degrees), WMCA, WMGM and a reference to Boss Jocks (KHJ). And then, there’s the shout out to Rich Brother Robbin and the Wolfman Jack impersonation. Great fun, Ken!
