Well…Dale Dorman is ” Riding thru’ the Air ” to YOU right now…along with his Buddies Tony Mann, and Mike Addams!

You will certainly notice that Dorman is “off his mark” (to a pretty large degree) THAT day…But…we’ll cut him some slack , due to it’s being the Holidays (Day before, or even Thanksgiving Day (’73?) itself.

A wonderfully mastered recording featuring some Boston greats! Mike Addams was better known as time went on, in the late 70s, and early 80s at WRKO – even did some time at WAQY Springfield (Rock 102/Wacky 102). Dale Dorman’s career is legendary, including stints at WVBF, WXKS-FM and WODS until his retirement. Tony Mann was also a mainstay for a while at WRKO in the mid-70s. All three are heard on a recording so crisp, you’ll think you have WRKO on a little table radio right next to you!

While I’m not entirely sure of the date, Steve says he thinks its 1973. We think it’s ’74. Who’s right? Post your guesses below.

  1. The Mike Adams from Springfield (Now on WEEI) is not the same Mike Addams that was on WRKO and now on Magic 106.7.

I don’t think either of them were on WAQY in Springfield.

    1. Mike Adams has (the one currently on WEEI) has frequently mentioned his time spent on WAQY Springfield in the 80s.

  2. The WEZE part of the aircheck made my head hurt, and not just cause the audio was bad. WEZE barely mentioned the calls, dial position and the lack of jingles didn’t help. They sure made it easy for RKO and the rest.

  3. OK…Here’s the “Drill”…Mike Addams…arrived in ’74…from down South…the others, WHO KNOWS ? !!
And, it was ’73. THANK YOU !

  4. I’m sorry…if Mike was there in ’74…this tape had to be ’74…HELP…MIKE ?????

  5. It’s definitely 1973, the commercial for the December issue of Playboy gives it away. It describes the features that were found in the Dec. 1973 issue.

  6. I have a copy of a WRKO aircheck from Oct 73 with this same Mike Adams. The songs are clearly from that era like Photograph, Half Breed and Loves me like a rock. Adams, IIRC joined RKO in early fall 73 under new PD Gerry (Cagle) Peterson.

  7. The WRKO portion of this aircheck was almost certainly recorded off of the FM… at 98.5… which was probably still WRKO-FM at this time JUST BEFORE the debut of “The Golden Great 98” – WROR.

  8. Of Even MORE Importance here is that we Must Record Radio History Correctly …Did he …or Didn’t Mike Addams EVER appear on Radio…IN SPRINGFIELD…I’ve “got a call” into Mike, as we speak !

  9. It is also interesting to note that “Dream On” by Aerosmith became a smash hit in Boston in 1973, but it wasn’t until its re-release in 1976 that it became a national hit.

  10. Just “spoke” to Mike Addams on Facebook…he informs that he was at Big WAYS in Charlotte, N.C., just prior to coming to RKO … And, we’re glad he DID !
