“Friendly Floyd” Wright, Curtis W. Hansen, 101.3 WKCI (KC-101) Hamden/New Haven | July 14, 1979
In honor of the late Floyd Wright, here’s a very short aircheck scope of he and Curtis W on KC-101 shortly after the station’s 1979 debut. Courtesy of Contributor Bob Gilmore.
Alan Polasky, 79 WFUN Miami | 1974
The year appears to be 1974. From contributor Alan Polasky, here’s one of his own airchecks. It’s been preserved very well, sounds just like it came from the studio skimmer machine. At under two minutes long, this sounds really good and is typical of how AM top 40 radio sounded in ’74.
Dan Walker, 1240 WWCO Waterbury CT | 1979
Contributor Angello Vecchiarelli is an archivist of Waterbury and Naugatuck Valley radio stations. There is a page for Waterbury area stations on Facebook which includes WATR, WNVR, WNAQ and WWCO. The 35th Anniversary ostensibly refers to the date of the start of the…
Don Geronimo, 93.1 WDRQ Detroit | January, 1980
Notice, there’s a LOT of Rock product on the air on this Top 40 station. It seems WDRQ may have taken a few cues from WLS and it’s “Rock-40” format.
When The Big 8 Still Served Detroit – Scott Miller, 800 CKLW Windsor | April, 1980
Billing itself as “The Great Entertainer”, here’s a bit more subdued CKLW in the cold Spring of 1980.
The Morning Show, 88.1 WBLQ Westerly RI | February 18, 2005
The late Chris Dipaola is featured here in a prior incarnation of WBLQ, back when it was on 88.1 FM.
Jeff Davis, 89 WLS Chicago | June 15, 1980
Listen to this aircheck UNSCOPED below: National voiceover artist Jeff Davis was known as one of the prestigious WLS Jocks of the late 1970s and early to mid 1980s. But most everyone of a certain age probably remembers, anyway. His is a name which needs no introduction, being today, the voice of a number of…
