Here’s a little bit of everything morning drive had to offer in NYC. It starts with Imus in the Morning on WNBC, then moves right along going back and forth between NBC, Ron Lundy on WABC (10-11 am) and Lee Douglas on WXLO 99X FM. There’s a few snippets of other things in here too.

Ron LundySent in among the rest of Frank Davis‘ collection box, this composite caught us by surprise. There’s more to come from this tape so stay tuned.

If you haven’t done so yet, please consider a donation to help cover the cost of bringing these classic airchecks to you. All it takes is $20 from everyone, and Airchexx would be fully funded for months to come. Thank you.

Very enjoyable airchecks. A couple of thoughts. First, don’t overlook WNJR Newark, a station with a long history of playing R & B. Legindary personalities Danny Styles and Bobby Jay spent some time there. Also, the WXLO midd-day host heard here was Dave Thomson, who normally held down the afternoon drive shift. Lee Douglas had not yet arrived. I believe the voice on the “Top 99” promo was Jay Stone. And while I can’t be certain, I think these airchecks were recorded on Saturday December 28th. And wow! All the liberties Imus was allowed to take.

I KNOW WABC ALWAYS CLOBBERED WNBC IN THE OVERALL RATINGS BUT DID IMUS MAKE THE AM DRIVE A RACE AT LEAST? DOES ANYONE KNOW?
