98.5 New Orleans WYLD

We know very little about this station except that from research it appears that the AM flipped to Christian programming at some time after this recording.

This sounds like an Urban AC formatted station. Someone who remembers may be able to better fill us in on the details. We did manage to find a station logo… on the side of a station van pictured below.

  1. The station was and still is very much Urban AC. When Crap Channel bought out several New Orleans stations, they picked up WYLD and Q93, which has been blasting hard core urban since the mid 80s. With this duo and New Orleans large black population, Clear Channel held #1 and #2 in the Arbs up until Katrina. Not sure how these stations rate today.

  2. The station has always been a urban A/C since coming online in February 1975 according to all records I’ve seen.

This station has either been number one or number two except maybe two books since Katrina also
