Courtesy of Matt over at Big Apple Airchecks, we have a… well, mysterious aircheck of good quality. Kim Diamond starts out saying she got up in a strange kinda mood so its gonna be one of those kinda shows… she’s pretty talented, but we can dig up virtually NOTHING on KKWV “The Wave” as the only website that those call letters bring up is something on 88.1 in Aransas Pass, Texas in the Corpus Christi market. So, the station’s gone, replaced by… something.
UPDATE: 4/28/16 – Its amazing what a few years does with regard to internet information growth. The background on this station is that 1/2/2002 until 9/5/2003, this station was KKWV “The Wave”. So, our original guess that the year was 2004 was off by a year. Ooops. That does happen on occasion when we have a tape with no date. On 9/5/2003, the station changed format to Adult Coontemporary 93.3 KBAY, simulcasting 94.5 The Bay in San Jose. Complete information on that format flip is available at our sister site, FormatChange.com Click HERE for the story.
This Infinity (now CBS) owned station had a good mix of music, pretty wide variety and some personality, but like so many stations that have come and gone, really had nothing special to offer, at least from our perspective. Nonetheless, its a good scope of a station that apparently no longer exists.
This is an absolute GEM. Thank you so much for posting this legend of a radio station. It sounds like a slightly more rhythmic take on the infamous JACK-FM franchise. I wonder if a format like like would work these days. As for the date of this aircheck, I would say around August 25, 2003 because of the references to Marley Monday and “this Labor Day” weekend.
This station was in San Francisco….
a nice effort that didn’t last at 93.3
Thank you!!!
I haven’t heard from you in a long time, is everything going well for you .
