new york radio stations

Back in June 1984, I was hosting an afternoon radio show in Atlantic City, NJ. To help make me better on the radio, I would make trips to New York City and record the radio stations there, hoping to learn from them. I would tune up & down the dial, trying to record as many of the city’s personalities as I could. This recording is from one of those dial scan tapes.

This NYC radio dial scan. Includes: WCBS-FM (Ron Lundy), WLIB (David Lampel), WQXR, WABC (Owen Spann), WHTZ, WPIX (Dick Summer), WAPP, WBLS (Jerry Bledsoe), WRFM, WNEW (Dave Herman), WYNY, WHN, WEVD (Mindy Steinberg), WDHA, & WRKS 98.7 Kiss FM.

It’s a nice little snapshot of what New York radio sounded like at the start of summer 1984. -Ellis
