Sent in by new contributor Julian Porter, who just happened to stay in Boston and record a number of great stations for a day. We’re very fortunate to have this original recording.
Arnie Ginsburg and his willie whistle are somehow live on WROR, only a year before the flip to live Adult Contemporary as the station known for its “I’d Rather Be In Boston” JAM(tm) jingles!
This is the “Golden Great 98” era. A period of time where Automated (mostly) WROR played a mix of oldies and current music.
This was an interesting show. I suspect it was recorded during weekend or evening hours – someone help me out with this. Certainly not a drive time slot. Ginsburg seems pretty relaxed for a guy known for sound effects and high-speed patter when over at WMEX 10 years before. But then again, this was RKO General’s format and while I never heard it for myself, it’s legend in Boston leading up to the 1980s is quite famous!
