A long time ago, I began posting the tapes for this weekend-long event held at the old 98.5 WROR. Instead of postng parts 3 and 4 separately, I included them together because of segment length. Part 2 got posted in 2011. Part 1 NEVER posted, and as soon as I locate the master tape, it will go up.
The first two-thirds of this is Joe Martelle and his “Saturday Night at the Oldies” show. That show ran on WROR for many years, discontinued only after 103.3 flipped to Oldies as WODS “Oldies 103”. This particular special ran for both weekend days. It included guest personalities J.J. Jeffrey, Arnie Woo Woo Ginsburg, recording artists Little Anthony and Freddie Boom Boom Cannon… and of course, Joe Martelle who is the host for most of this. The final third of this aircheck is from the following morning, Sunday March 18th, 1985. Dan Donovan, who was probably best known for his years at WMEX Boston and WFIL Philadelphia holds court in Boston for the first time in about 17 years… by his account.

This is just GREAT radio! Listen to how much fun the jocks are having. Freddie Cannon could have done radio instead of music. Perhaps both talents are interchangeable. A musician surely must have the same sense of entertaining listeners as a jock, right?
This is without a doubt, one of the best new airchecks put up in a long time! I hope that you will listen to the whole 39 minutes and get a feel for how radio should really sound!
