It was the waning days of CHR at 94.5. WZOU would eventually morph into Urban WJMN “Jammin’ 94.5, which is still on the air today. Very music intensive, much less talk and personality oriented than it used to be, you can tell that this station is in it’s final days. While she doesn’t say her name once in this 45 minute original (it’s scoped here, of course), it sounds like Julie Deveraux. Perhaps someone knows exactly.
You’ll enjoy the jingles, used fairly regularly each hour, and the imaging voice of the great Ernie Anderson. Even toward the end, WZOU still sounded great!
Indeed that is the great Ernie Anderson in the first liner on this check but the later liners are my buddy Dude Walker…not sure if the jock is Julie or not, btw MVP is still using the same logos 15 years later cool !
Thanks for re-posting this. I’ve remember this when it was on a earlier version of the site and it’s good to hear it again. This aircheck was from around the time that Kiss & WZOU “swapped” PD’s with Kiss 108’s Steve Prerun’s crossing the street to WZOU and WZOU’s Steve Rivers going over to Kiss 108. Weird, huh?
Robby: She sounded a lot like Judy Paparelli (sp?) to me. Didn’t she work at ZOU before they’ve became Jamm’in?
Robyn
Judy Paparelli… yea Robyn, perhaps you’re right. She always had a really smooth sounding voice. I’m reminded of how much I liked Carolyn Cruze on WKLB, also. Same smooth delivery style that I enjoy, only Cruze’s voice is a tad more gruff sounding.
If memory serves, didn’t Paparelli do some work on WBZ-TV 4 for a while?
Steve
The mistery jock is actually Andrea Phillips. She worked at ZOU for a couple years and then moved to Mix 98.5. Judy Paperelli also worked at WZOU in the “z94” days (1987). then she moved on to WBZ-TV. Kiss and ZOU did swap PD’s, but the it was Sunny Joe White that came from Kiss to ZOU. This was the beginning of his short run at ZOU.
Well Then Type Her Name Jim!
Actually, the PD swap was with Sunny Jo White and Steve Rivers. Kiss had let go of Sunny, and then hired Steve Rivers, who hadn’t signed his contract with WZOU.
WZOU then hired Steve Perun to be the PD, but then later left when he had a dispute with the GM. Sunny Jo White only hired for a midday on air shift initially, but was promoted to PD when Steve Perun left instead.
Say…I just found this aircheck online and lo and behold…it IS me, Andrea Phillips. And I’m happy to let you know that, although I am no longer on the air, I am alive and well and now live in California.
Hey Andrea! What fun to swap air checks with you!
And the jingles are a great package called “Power Lock” from now defunct (at least for IDs) FirstCom. (these were also on 95 Triple X in Burlington VT)
Hey Can You Find That Jingle Package On SoundCloud?
I can look. But I don’t post anything random. Need permission from the owner or person who recorded it to post.
Thats amazing that she saw this
Her name pops into my head once and a while so i googled this
